American adults are behaving badly, stuck in our screens generating social drama and losing our sense of connection. The norms for acceptable adult behavior have been rewritten in a world where we live through our two-way screens. Our social media posts can easily create social drama on steroids. In the metaverse, we feed off each others' erratic and volatile behaviors.
We used to be worried about adolescents who acted this way. Now it's time to look at our adult selves and consider who we are. We are using the digital universe to turn our children, ourselves and our relationships into tradeable digital commodities. While we think social media connects us to each other, it is really destroying our relationships and our humanity.
It is time for us to take control of the digital world and make it something that nourishes humanity instead of destroying it.
